Worx Over the door shoe holder
Creating a DIY over-the-door shoe organizer is a practical way to maximize space and keep your footwear organized. Here's a step-by-step guide to building your own:
Materials Needed:
- Sturdy fabric (such as canvas or denim)
- Clear vinyl or mesh fabric for pockets
- Bias tape or fabric for edging
- Sewing machine and thread
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Over-the-door hooks or grommets for hanging
- Optional: Decorative elements like fabric paint or patches
Instructions:
Measure the Door:
- Determine the width and height of your door to ensure the organizer fits properly. Standard doors are typically 24 to 36 inches wide.
Cut the Base Fabric:
- Cut a piece of sturdy fabric to match the door's dimensions, adding an extra inch to each side for hemming. For example, for a 24-inch wide door, cut the fabric to 26 inches wide.
Create Pocket Panels:
- Decide on the number and size of pockets based on your shoe collection.
- Cut clear vinyl or mesh fabric into rectangles for each pocket, ensuring they're large enough to accommodate your shoes.
Hem Pocket Edges:
- Fold and sew a small hem on the top edge of each pocket panel to prevent fraying and provide a finished look.
Attach Pockets to Base:
- Lay out the pocket panels on the base fabric, spacing them evenly.
- Pin the sides and bottom of each pocket in place.
- Sew the sides and bottom edges of the pockets to the base fabric, leaving the top open.
Add Edging:
- Sew bias tape or fabric strips around the perimeter of the organizer to conceal raw edges and add durability.
Install Hanging Mechanism:
- Attach grommets to the top corners of the organizer and use over-the-door hooks to hang it.
- Alternatively, sew fabric loops at the top and hang them directly on hooks.
Customize (Optional):
- Decorate your organizer with fabric paint, patches, or other embellishments to match your room's decor.
Hang and Fill:
- Place the organizer over your door using the chosen method.
- Insert your shoes into the pockets, organizing them as desired.
